The White House is getting its 2018 Christmas tree from Oregon

christmas tree white houseOregon is known for many things: Cycling, great beer, lumberjacks, and this year it’ll be where the White House gets its West Lawn Christmas tree.

The Sweet Home Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest has the honor of providing the Capitol tree for 2018, and the Forest Service is asking the public to help make the selection. They’ve asked anyone to submit their candidate tree by taking a photo, logging the GPS coordinates, and sending them with their contact information to the Ranger District Office by tomorrow, June 30.

In August, the Capitol architect will come from D.C. to select the finalist.

Sweet Home District Ranger Nikki Swanson describes it as “an amazing gift to the people of the United States from Oregon.”

Anyone interested in submitting a tree should look for one that is 65 to 80 feet tall with good needles and is easily accessible.
